One Piece Card Game
In the world of TCG, the two names that get repeated as the top games in the hobby are Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon.
But what if there was a third game that was rising in popularity over the last few years?
There is, and that game is One Piece.
One Piece started as a Manga back in 1997, and in 1999 was adapted into one of the most popular anime series.
Over the last few years, One Piece Card Game has begun growing in popularity due in part to the Netflix series, the manga, the anime, and every other variation of the franchise. The cards have become increasingly popular as well with different variants ranging from “whoa that looks cool,” to “$15k for a PSA 10 Monkey.D.Luffy?!”
We at Lowkey love One Piece. The card game has become one of our favorites to carry and highly sought after by collectors and players. We love the artwork, the chase cards are exciting and look dope, and so many of our customers come in looking for packs or boxes that they aren’t able to find anywhere else. While we will be offering One Piece game nights for competitive players, you don’t need to play the game to enjoy collecting it.
So, what is One Piece Card Game?
One Piece’s card game is a trading card game from Bandai based off of the characters and the world of One Piece. One Piece follows the main character, Monkey.D.Luffy on his quest to become the King of the Pirates by finding the fabled treasure called: One Piece. Much like the one ring to rule them all, this is the one piece to rule the pirates. Pretty standard in the world of TCG, the card game involves users building a deck around a leader card, then using the character, even, and stage cards against their opponent.
“I just learned how to play Pokemon, do I really need to learn another game to play?”
No, not at all. You can collect anything simply because you like the way it looks or it has meaning to you. We encourage playing the card game because it’s a great way to build community and to learn more about the franchise as a whole. But if you just like the way the cards look, that’s cool, too.
Why Are One Piece Cards So Popular?
The artwork is a huge part of it. One Piece has an immediately recognizable design, and their chase cards are works of art. The rarer pulls have artwork that’s inspired by the original manga, and those are usually the top chases whenever a new set is released. One Piece fans of the series or anime frequently collect the cards too as a way to support their favorite show.
Do I have to buy individual cards or do I buy packs?
You can buy either. If there’s a specific character that you’re looking for, buying a single card might be the best way to ensure that you get that card. If you’re a fan of the show, then buying a pack or booster box will allow you to build a collection of different characters. Bandai, the manufacturer of One Piece products, frequently drops various collabs and special sets that offer different cards or products than a traditional booster pack or box will give you.
Lastly, starter decks are a great way to build your collection and build a set to play the game. They’re preconstructed decks that are built around specific characters and strategies so that you don’t have to figure out how to build a deck from scratch to play. You simply buy the starter deck and can start playing.
